JANE GREIG
Cook like Rachael Ray with a vintage Chambers range

Q: I wonder if you can find out about the stove that Rachael Ray uses on her Food Network program "30 Minute Meals"? When I was growing up and learning to cook, we had a gas stove with a griddle/broiler just like the one on her stove. We used it a lot. Among the foods we made were pancakes on the griddle and open-faced sandwiches in the broiler. It was a really handy thing to have.
Is a stove like hers available to the public? At a reasonable price?

A: Where is that stove now?
Ray cooks her meals on a vintage Chambers range circa 1950, model 90c. These stoves are expensive ($2,000 to $6,000 for a working model) and inspire passion among owners. Visit chamberstoves.net or antiquestoves.com to start your Chambers gas range quest.
The retro refrigerator is more available (prices begin at $4,000). Contact Elmira Stove Works at (800) 295-8498 or www.elmirastoveworks.com for information and dealers.

Hi Todd,
I got it at statesman.com, search Jane Greig, the article was on 12-12-05. I couldn't get the link to work without being taken to a "get info" page.

Todd -
I too found my Chambers thru watching Rachael Ray and falling in love with her stove with that fantastic broiler. I learned it was a Chambers thru the Food Network site. I went to Rachael's 30-Minute Meal page and from there you'll see a 'set list' which includes besides the Chambers info, info on her other appliances and accessories. Here's a link:

I just sent her the following e-mail:
[i]Hi Rachel!
Just thought I'd let you know that CHAMBERS made two main versions of their popular "C" series of ranges: The Model 61C, which has a low backsplash, and the Model 90C, which has a tall backsplash (they called it the "SuperDeLuxe Back").
I own and operate the premier website for those who love and use CHAMBERS stoves - it is filled with information on how to use, care for, and COOK on a CHAMBERS! I even have Service Manuals to help people keep their CHAMBERS stoves in top shape and Cookbooks that teach owners how to use the patented insulated features of their CHAMBERS so they can cook with the gas turned OFF!
I hope you will visit it sometime! If you'd like a Service Manual and cookbook for your CHAMBERS, let me know, and I will gladly send it to you with my compliments!
Happy cooking with the gas turned OFF!

Todd,
When I first got my chambers and was looking for a service man I emailed Rachael. Her producer emailed me back with the names and numbers of the service men they use to keep their baby running. I've since emailed her suggesting a show dedicated to chambers cooks, didn't get a response on that one. It seems a shame that the stove doesn't get used to its full potential.
